Hammer Forum implements integrated solution by CIWI

One software provides a full solution: Fundtrac by CIWI replicates the entire project management cycle

The Hammer Forum e.V. annually supports almost 6.000 children in war and crisis regions through humanitarian medical aid. Moreover the organisation with its headquarters in Hamm, Northrhine-Westphalia, each year allows approximately 100 children suffering from grave illnesses to come to Germany and receive their treatment here. In the future, the Hammer Forum will steer its international efforts using Fundtrac, the software by the Ulm-based ICT specialist CIWI.

Most of the projects of the Hammer Forums are funded through donations. Using these funds the initiative mainly finances their work in crisis regions, the travel costs of the children, overheads, care in Germany and medical products. „We have been looking long and hard for a useful and fully transparent solution for our project management. We believe we have found it in Fundtrac: the functionality it provides is both flexible and comprehensive at the same time“, says Martin Geukes, director of the Hammer Forum. The web-based project and financial management system Fundtrac has been developed by CIWI to suit the needs of international non-government organisations (NGOs). By offering full integration of the fundraising management CIWI supports the comprehensive management of aid and development projects as the only provider on the market. Fundtrac replicates the entire project management cycle - from planning, financing, budgeting and execution through to project closure, accounting and documentation.

Until today, the Hammer Forum suffered from the difficulties arising from the need to manage donations received and expenses made for projects using multiple different software solutions. „Fundtrac now integrates both areas speeding up the flow of funds along the entire value chain and making it more transparent – moreover, we are also relieved of having to edit countless spreadsheets“, explains Martin Geukes. The director of the Hammer Forum also expects many benefits from the software running fully web-based: „In the future our employees will have access to all relevant data - even in crisis regions. Obviously, we will be making good use of this feature.“

Ulf Waterstraat, who supervised the implementation of the software for CIWI, summarizes the benefits of the new solution: „Fundtrac offers the Hammer Forum the complete spectrum of functionality aid organisations need to realize great projects.“ With a view to optimizing the management of fundraising efforts, Waterstraat explains: „The donors who contribute to the projects of the Hammer Forum can always stay informed about where their funds are going to. This substantially increases the basis of trust for every organisation.“

The Hammer Forum was founded in 1991 during the 2nd Gulf War by inhabitants and medical doctors of the city of Hamm. Their initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering particularly of children who had been struck hard by the war. In the meantime, the organisation has extended their work. From their headquarters in Hamm they are controlling the activities of more than 200 volunteers, among them medical doctors, nurses, craftsmen and foster parents. With their projects taking place Eritrea, Yemen, Chechnya, Guinea, Sri Lanka and Palestine among other countries they specifically aim to provide "help-to-help-you-help-yourself". This approach is strengthened through offering further specialized professional training to all doctors and nurses and through the creation of stationary facilities.

Since its creation the Hammer Forum has brought more than 1.600 young patients from crisis areas to Germany to improve their medical care. Thanks to the support of around 150 German hospitals their care can generally be offered free of charge. Nevertheless the long-term goal is the creation and extension of adequate facilities in the countries themselves in order to drastically reduce the number of children who have to be flown to Germany for medical help.
